What’s Your Love Language?

Do you like to verbalize it by writing poems, love notes or telling people you love them?

Or do you like to buy the people you love lots of gifts?

Perhaps you’re a touchy type of person and can’t help but hug people?

Everyone gives and receives love differently.

Welcome to the 5 Languages of Love!

Understanding these 5 languages of love is the key to flourishing relationships.

You may have been receiving a lot of love from someone like your mother, partner or friends and not even realize it. If the way you like to receive love isn’t the same as the way your partner or friend likes to give love, then you could feel you are missing out on something very special even though they have been showing you their love all along.

These 5 love languages are:

1. Words of affirmation

2. Sharing quality time

3. Giving gifts

4. Acts of Service

5. Personal touch

So for instance, a very close family member of mine is the most amazing lady! She is a great cook and when you go to her house for a meal she puts on a lavish spread and you eat… and eat… AND EAT! When you have finished she says: “Tom, why have you hardly touched your food, please, eat some more.” (Meanwhile I am bursting at the seams!!)

When she does this I used to think, “Can’t she see that I’ve already eaten three platefuls of food!” But now that I understand the languages of love, when she does this I know she is simply showing that she cares for me, but in her own way, i.e. through acts of service (cooking food all day).

My love language is an equal combination of words of affirmation and personal touch. So I like to tell people openly how I feel about them and express that with a hug or touch on the shoulder. Of course if your love language isn’t personal touch and maybe it’s acts of service, then this might be uncomfortable for you to receive love this way. See not everyone likes to receive love how you’d like to show it. It gets complicate right???

When you discover what your love language is, be open and honest with your close friends and partner and let them know. Then get your friends and partner to reveal what theirs is so they will be clearer about it too. You may have to tweak the way you have been sharing your love slightly to suit your partners preferred way of receiving it.

Of course you’re never going to deeply know everyone’s love language unless we all wore badges on our lapels stating this. (*Bookmark- business idea!) But it is helpful to share this with people close to you as it will improve your communcation and deepen your connection with them.

5 Tips On Living With Passion And Purpose In A Relationship

Are you living the fullest version of yourself right now? Are you embracing every moment in rapture at the infinite possibilities that each day brings? 

Or are you on a treadmill, fitting into someone else’s life, buying into someone else’s story, ignoring your passions, your visions and your truth?

One common theme that keeps presenting itself with my students is how many people are in relationships or have come out of relationships where they felt they had ‘lost themselves’.

One woman shared with me how she had just come out of a 13-year relationship. She felt she was overweight, unhappy, had lost passion in life and had not felt like she had lived for herself. 

Now she is learning salsa dancing, going to yoga, horse riding, writing regularly and losing weight. She has re-discovered that she had many diverse interests and passions before she entered into this relationship but somehow they all got swept under the mat.

How do we navigate the complexities of relationships, where there is the requirement to compromise, and surrender to some degree, and yet achieve the goal of living a dynamic full life at the same time?

Here you are with the greatest gift- to be YOU. 

Each moment is a ridiculous blessing. Yes, we have heard the clichés but do we truly live it and believe it? 

When a relationship becomes your source of fulfillment you disempower yourself. 

When you see relationships as outlets for the expression of your fulfillment then it empowers you.

Live fully, in the wholeness. Then from that space of radiance, of inner love and joy, share it with all who come into contact with you. 

You can re-write your paradigm right now, and embrace a life of purpose and passion whether you are with someone or not.

Here are 5 tips to help you stay on track, living your truth, living a life of passion and purpose whether in or out of a relationship with someone:

  1. Meditate twice a day

Once in the morning, and once in the afternoon. If you can’t do it twice a day, try just once a day in the morning. This is a moment for you, to re-connect to the deeper essence of who you are.

  1. Exercise and stretch at least three times a week.

This keeps you connected with your body and feeling dynamic and enthusiastic for living.

  1. Each week put aside segments that are solely for you and your passion

Whatever it is, give yourself a chance to engage with what lights you up. Be it dance classes, surfing, bushwalking, sitting under a tree reading a book, or going to the movies, this is time for you. Just you. 

  1. Inspire others to also take time out for themselves to find their passions.
  2. Be honest and open about your passions and vision for your life. 

Share it with others and invite them to join you on your journey.

How To Get A Positive Charge

Ever wondered why you feel elevated after charging through waves in the ocean or standing under a waterfall?

Negative Ions are incredibly good for you, which make them a big positive!

So what are they and how do you get them?

(Stay with me on this) Ions are particles found in the air. They are either molecules or atoms, which bear an electric charge. A negative Ion is an atom (or molecule) that has gained one or more extra negatively charged electrons. (Still with me??)

They are invisible, odourless and tasteless. They are usually created by crashing waves, waterfalls, storms and salt lamps. You can actually buy machines these days that can produce negative ions for your room or house.

Places where there is a depleted level of negative ions are concrete jungles like cities, in air-conditioned offices and inside cars. A controlled study on seasonal affective disorder (SAD), reported in the Archives Of General Psychiatry in October 1998, found negatively charged fresh air to be an effective treatment and prevention for depression. Scientists believe this is because negative ions affect the serotonin levels in the brain, less dramatically (and synthetically) than a prescription anti-depressant.

Negative ions have also been proven to:

  • Relieve stress
  • Increase energy
  • Help reduce air born germs
  • Increase mental clarity
  • Improve blood circulation

So if you want a nice dose of positivity get yourself some negative ions by:

  • standing under a waterfall
  • jumping through some crashing waves
  • turn off wifi and electronics at night
  • install salt lamps in your home
  • have indoor plants in your home
  • dry your clothes in natural sunlight where possible
  • install ionisers in your home

Breaking News! New Cold And Flu Cure!

NEWSREADER:
“Breaking news just at hand, it has been reported that Tom Cronin has recently experienced cold and flu like symptoms. At first this was thought to be merely rumors however it has since been verified that yes, he did have a flu.”

This may not seem such big news to many, as surely it’s quite normal for people to get a flu once a year or more, however being a representative of all things healthy and natural and not having a cold or flu for over three years now it is big news for me. So how have I prevented having colds and flu for so long and why did I get it this time?

Balance and Imbalance.
Health is a state of balance and I have to tell you that the last few weeks I was wayyyy outta balance! A combination of lots of flying, limited sleep, poor diet, lack of routine, compromised meditation routine and 2 rock concerts in 5 days (but insanely awesome concerts!) and you have a seesaw that is heavily weighted on one side.

It doesn’t sound like much but this is the nature of this fragile eco system called OUR BODY. It’s a very complex biological system that requires the utmost care and respect for it to operate at the highest level. When this level of care is maintained, the body will function with vitality, zest, youthfulness and strength. However if that level of care and attention isn’t taken, then imbalances will be present and finally, symptoms of the imbalance will manifest.

Sickness and disease is the last of 5 stages of an imbalance being present in the body.
Interestingly western medicine is only interested in treated the final stage of the imbalance which is the symptom, not the cause.

So to rebalance and repair naturally and quickly the steps I took were:

  • Early to bed each night.
  • Drinking lots of warm lemon water
  • Warm baths
  • Increased supplements of vit b + c, acai powder, astragalus, olive leaf extract, Echinacea
  • 2 green smoothies a day
  • 2 full days of rest at the beach and in the National Park among nature
  • Increased my meditations from 2 to 3 day
  • Extra kefir and probiotics
  • Cut out exercise for a couple of days to let the body heal

A few days later and I’m fully realigned and ready for action (this time with a little more balance to it!) No doctors, no Codral, no pseudoephedrine, no antibiotics…simply the bodies healing code and few natural assistants. .It’s really simple. Your body will heal, and recover very quickly. When I say quickly, I mean within a few days, instead of weeks. All it needs is some balance restored through rest, lots of fluids, healthy food and a positive mindset.
