Why This Woman’s Body Dissolved In Her Second Meditation

There’s no doubting the explosion in mindfulness and meditation in the last 5 years. (Yes I know it’s unusual to use the words explosion and meditation in the same sentence but its true right?!) This is a wonderful thing to see, as the world seems to be in a space where a little more calm needs to be found. But it is also creating some confusion with many seekers. It’s like when you get to a restaurant and they have 200 choices on the menu, and you just get overwhelmed with the amount of choice! Eeek, where to do I start??

So today I made a short video for you, sharing why over 20 years of researching numerous meditation techniques, that I choose to not only use myself, but also teach a meditation technique that uses mantras or sounds in it. After you watch this video you will have a deeper understanding about how to get deep quickly, so much so that in this woman’s second meditation, her body began to dissolve!

Enjoy and if you have any questions or comments please leave them below.

Three Life Changing Questions From World’s Leading Transformational Coach

Don’t you love a “Hero’s Tale”?

You know those stories where someone climbs out of the ashes and rebuilds their life to one of greatness? These stories offer us hope and inspiration.

Well I have one for you that stands out. Introducing Brendon Burchard. This guy was on death’s door after a car accident at the age of 19, and three questions inspired him to look at his life at such a young age:

Did I live?
Did I love?
Did I matter?

Three powerful questions that really make you sit up and think. What are you here for? Are you loving fully in every moment? Why are you waking up each day and are you living a relevant life?

Brendon has gone on to do some amazing things. He is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Millionaire Messenger, and the #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author of The Charge: Activating the 10 Human Drives That Make You Feel Alive. He is also a public speaker, and online trainer on the topics of motivation, high performance, and online marketing.

One thing Brendon puts a lot of his success down to is meditation. He’s been meditating for 10 years now and says:

“It is the magic method for improving people’s lives mentally and psychologically, and many people would argue spiritually as well.”

I have to agree with Brendon because it was transformational in my life. With just 20 minutes twice a day of setting time aside for stillness, my whole life changed for the better. Who would have thought that by doing something so effortless and seemingly inactive that it could have so much power in changing your active life. Brendon explains it so well here how simple it is:

“I close my eyes and do the meditation and in 20 minutes I’m fresh and feel like I just woke up in the morning, like I had a great nap and bam! Now I can write creatively, unattached to all the previous activities.”

We are accustomed to looking outside ourselves for fulfilment….

…yet happiness is not outside. It’s only when we go within do we truly find peace and happiness.

As Brendon says:

“It’s a sensation, a presence, an aliveness and freshness that most people have never experienced in their lifetime.”

So if you are trying to find happiness and success or trying to find love and money, then start by setting aside time each day to connect to your inner stillness in meditation, then watch what flows from that space.

If you already have a meditation practice, then that’s awesome! Even if it’s just 5 minutes a day to go to that quiet space within.

If you need some assistance with meditation, then you may like to join my 21 day meditation journey where I will be there with you every day for 21 days to help you experience a deep, relaxing, meditation technique called Faster Deeper Bliss.

How To Master Meditation

meditating face

“I tried it and it didn’t work.”
“There’s no way I could do that!”
“I’m a hopeless fail at doing it.”
“My mind is too busy to do it.”

These are just some of the things I’ve heard lately when discussing meditation with people that I’ve met during my travels. Recently I even read a blog by a yoga teacher of 15 years who wrote:
“In the 15 years thus far of my yoga journey, the act of meditation has always been difficult for me.”

So after studying meditation for 20 years now and hearing how many people believe that meditation is hard, difficult or impossible to do, I felt it was time for me to shed some light on this subject.

Firstly there are many ways to meditate. Some of them will require force or effort, and some will be easy and effortless. Let’s face it, if it’s difficult and an uncomfortable experience, the likelihood of you sustaining this meditation practice will be close to zero! I know some people who believe that if meditation is easy and not difficult, then you aren’t really meditating. I recall one yoga teacher tell me once that the meditation technique I use is like the MacDonald’s of meditation, because its too convenient and easy.

“Hello? What?”

I’ve sat in meditation for 20 minutes twice a day for nearly 20 years now. It’s a very charming proposition, because it’s such an enjoyable experience. This is what keeps me coming back to the practice. It’s a very tangible, blissful experience. If there was friction and force, it would be uncomfortable and not compelling at all. Hence, why many people ‘try’ to meditate and give up early on in the piece.

Recently I taught a lovely guy who had ‘tried’ to meditate for years. He thought it was time to get some structure with his meditation practice so he came and did my weekend course. You should have seen his face when he came out of his first meditation…he was in awe of how deep and easy it was after all those years of ‘trying’. The next week he sent me this:

“A MASSIVE THANK YOU! for the other weekend. What a transformational experience! I can’t even begin to describe the positive effects the meditation you taught has had on me so far. I’m calmer, more peaceful and just all round feeling so much better. I feel truly blessed to have been a part of this, you’re a good soul dude and I can’t thank you enough.”

So why is it that some meditations are easy and some not so easy?

Two reasons:

1. The nature of the mind is that it is always seeking greater charm. This is why our addiction to our phones has occurred because we are feeding our minds with constant information which is like a sugar addiction. So to force the mind to ‘not think’ is like asking a drug addict to go cold turkey. This is where the use of mantras or stillness sounds come in. When you receive your meditation sound from a qualified teacher that you repeat inside your head, the process becomes effortless and easy because the mind is fascinated and charmed by the repetition of the sound. This is just like a baby being soothed by having it’s back patted and stroked. Eventually it will be lulled into a deep restful state. So rather than forcing the mind to be still, we have soothed it to become still. This is effortless and easy.

2. Lack of understanding about the body and it’s role in your meditation. Most people think meditation is all about stilling the mind or connecting to a higher self. When teaching meditation I start with the most basic element- your BODY.

Let me ask you a question…what’s the point of stilling the mind anyway? What is the goal in that? Seriously.

Why still the mind if it doesn’t help you feel good?

And your ‘feeling’s’ are all in the body. So it’s as much about your body as it is about anything else.

Many teachings of meditation fail to embrace this aspect of meditation. The thing with our body is it’s storing stress in it, so if you do manage to still your mind in meditation, then your body will drop into a very deep state of metabolic rest. Once in this deep state of rest, your body will begin to release stress and restore balance. This process will manifest in so many different ways. From feelings of agitation, fear, anger, lightness, twitches, spasms, falling asleep, coughing or simply having lots of thoughts. Without understanding why this is all happening will be very confusing and why many people stop meditating.

Last week I was teaching employees of a company how to meditate and most of the people in the room were sharing how they were feeling relaxed and in deep states during the meditation. One lady said she didn’t think she could do it and wasn’t sure if it was for her. I asked her to explain to me what she experienced during her meditation. She said at different times she would get an ear ache, waves of fear in her chest, short of breath, pressure in her forehead and at times her head kept nodding down like she was falling asleep.

I asked her if all this stopped when she finished her meditation. She said yes.

“Awesome!” I said. “You are an expert meditator!”

These are all indications that you are having a marvellous meditation with lots of re-organising and un-stressing occurring in the body. Without this knowledge one is led to believe that the supposed goal of stillness was not attained and so the meditation was a big fail. Not so. Many things will occur in a meditation, and possibly, just possibly, you might even experience some stillness. But this will be rare due to the high levels of stress in the body that will be released when we meditate.

So next time you are ‘trying’ to meditate and finding it frustrating and difficult, perhaps research other techniques or seek professional guidance.

5 Tips To Achieve A Regular Meditation Practice

Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 9.47.05 pm

I meet many people that tell me they tried meditation however they found it very difficult. So I decided to put together some tips that can help you to establish a regular meditation practise, so that you can put yourself on the pathway to happiness.

  1. Do away with distractions. When meditating, remove all possible distractions from your external environment. Choose a quiet place and dedicate that place to your meditation practise. When you are able to associate that place with meditation you will be more likely to stay on track.
  2. Make your practise your own. Some people get too caught up in what they think they should do while meditating. Believe it or not, what matters is what is going on in your mind as you meditate, not what you’re wearing or how you’re sitting or how long you can do it for. Try to remember the purpose of meditation and focus on accomplishing that goal.
  3. Release tension in your breath. The importance of letting go of exertion in your breath when you meditate should not be overlooked. As you deepen in meditation, your breath will become fainter. Allow the breath to be smooth and gentle.
  4. Let go of your thoughts. Ask anyone and they will tell you that the most difficult aspect of meditation is trying to ‘control’ the thoughts that enter your head. It’s only natural: you may have a clear head one minute and the next you’ll find that you’re thinking about what you are going to cook for dinner or how you have to go into work early the following morning. When it happens, identify that it is happening, address your thoughts and release them.
  5. Listen to your Stillness Sound. When you listen to a Stillness Sound, or mantra, as you meditate, you connect with your mind on a deeper level. Your Stillness Sound will help you to achieve a state of relaxation right away, and to start nurturing the sense of bliss that comes from mental clarity.

So there you have it, some simple tips to help you maintain a regular meditation practice and experience more calm in your life.

What is New Age Spirituality?

Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 7.18.28 pm

New age spirituality refers to a non-unified set of beliefs and practices that emerged towards the end of the twentieth century in the western world. The foundations of new age spirituality are built upon both eastern and western religious traditions, and the belief system is inclusive to ideas from self-help books such as The Secret and the Law of Attraction, a holistic approach to health, motivational and positive psychology research, studies in both consciousness and awareness, and scientific principles such as those explained in quantum physics. “New agers,” as they are called, don’t limit their belief system to one particular doctrine.

A Sign of the Times: History of the New Age Spirituality Movement
New age spirituality started to appear in the early nineteen-sixties as people began to reject formalized institutions and question the cultural values of their parents’ generation. As the masses spoke out in favor of racial equality, gender equality, sexual freedom, and peace, there was a movement towards pluralistic religious beliefs. A number of people began to reject religious institutions in favor a personalized belief system encompassing a wide range of metaphysical ideas.

The shift represented a change in the way that people view their own spirituality. Instead of confirming to inflexible, restrictive, and outdated religious dogmas, people realized that they could take their spirituality into their own hands in order to get closer to the divine creator. Moreover, due to the inclusive nature of new age spirituality, there was a sense of acceptance and liberalism towards other belief systems and values.

New Age Spirituality Today
Today, the new age spirituality movement is still thriving. Many people choose to reject organized religions or to pick and choose the beliefs that they identify with. This method of developing one’s spirituality draws from the idea that spirituality is innate and one must find his or her own path towards spiritual nourishment.
,br/>

Meditation has become one of the core tenets of new age spirituality. With recent research touting the physical, mental, and emotional health benefits of meditation, a lot of people have opted to access this technique in order to promote their own total well-being. Even those who still identify with an organized religion such as Christianity can benefit from meditation, because it promotes relaxation and is non-intrusive to one’s pre-existing beliefs. Meditation is a way of cultivating inner Stillness and bringing oneself closer to the divine.

New Age Spirituality and You
New agers have no specified spiritual leader and no rigid belief system. As such, if you are looking to further understand your spirituality, you can adopt this worldview. Within the realm of new age spirituality you are free to believe what it is that you want to believe and engage in the religious traditions that help you to connect with God. Regardless of what you believe or what you may have been taught growing up, you’re given the freedom to understand the world from a viewpoint that makes sense to you. Instead of conforming, you choose your own set of spiritual guidelines.

Meditation is one core practise of new age spirituality that you can truly benefit from. Not only can it provide a practical solution to a hectic, stress-filled lifestyle, but regular meditation also comes attached to health benefits such as increased longevity, reduced susceptibility to the common cold and flu, and reduced risk of cardiovascular disease. People that meditate have also been found to be happier overall and more likely to show compassion in their day-to-day interactions with others.

The concept of Stillness is so simple but so powerful. New age spirituality recognizes this important goal and enables followers to find it through their own means. When you join the Stillness Movement you open the door to experiencing a spiritual re-awakening. You gain the knowledge and the tools you need to take your spirituality into your own hands and start nourishing your connection with your creator. If you would like to find out how to start practising Stillness, take some time to learn more about this exciting spiritual undertaking with this simple Gentle Breath Meditation here…
